WursterSpeaks aims to bring together isolated pockets of the student population at the UC Berkeley’s architecture building, Wurster Hall, by encouraging emotional expression through an interactive message board.

A prototype with a scrollable list of words was placed in the main lobby to determine feasibility and interest. Students were attracted to the idea of anonymous self-expressions and often wrote many of their own phrases, indicating an opportunity for customization. An in-built Twitter function in the final prototype allowed individuals to input their unique emotions and messages.
An elegantly designed “thought bubble” emphasizes the sense of personal expression while simple button icons allows intuitive execution. The message board has three key functions: scrolling, tweeting, and liking. Users may scroll through a list of words or tweet their own unique feelings through #wurstersauce. Each button lights up when pressed to provide instant feedback and highlight the interactive experience.
